After 19yrs...
The soft morning light fell over the large, vintage house, making everything look warm and welcoming but inside, it was pure chaos. The house that once stood quiet… was no longer silent. It was alive. Voices echoed through the wide halls. Footsteps rushed from one corner to another.Servants moved around quickly, decorating the entrance with flowers, arranging things again and again as if nothing was perfect enough.
“Careful with that! Don’t drop it!”
“Arrey, keep the flowers straight!”
“Who kept this here? Move it!”
A Man stood in his late forties, directing everyone around. His face filled with urgency, his eyes scanning everything like nothing was right.
“She is about to reach and this is how the house looks?” he continued, clearly frustrated.
“Where are the preparations? Where is the arrangement for the Griha Pravesh? Nothing is ready!”
He ran a hand through his hair, already stressed.“Where is the car?” he asked loudly, looking around. “Bring the car out! I have to leave now. She must have landed already!”
The Man didn't stop...“Faster! Do everything fast! She is coming home after so many years and this is the welcome we are giving?”
His voice carried both irritation… and something deeper.Nervousness. Excitement.A little fear.
Just then, Another voice came from behind."Vijay...??"It was older, calmer.
Vijay turned slightly. An elderly man walked towards him slowly, his expression relaxed, almost amused.
“Why are you getting so restless?” the old man said gently. “Calm down. She is coming, not running away.”
But Bijoy didn’t relax.
“How can I calm down Saroj (Vijay's Neighbour)?” he replied immediately. “You don’t understand. After all these years… she is finally coming back.”His voice softened for a second.“What if everything is not perfect? What if she feels uncomfortable? What if..."
“Vijay,” Saroj interrupted, placing a hand on his shoulder.“Sometimes, it’s not the decorations that matter.” “It’s the feeling that matters the most,” Saroj continued. “And this house… has been waiting for her for years. That is enough.”
For a moment, Vijay said nothing.
His eyes shifted towards the entrance of the house… as if he could already see her walking in.A thousand thoughts ran through his mind. After all these years…Would she accept this place?
Before he could think further, A servant rushed in.“Sir, the car is ready.”
Vijay immediately turned.“I’m leaving,” he said quickly. "You just look after all these things" Vijay said to Saroj.
Without wasting another second, he walked out, his steps fast, almost impatient.Because today...After nineteen years..
He was finally going to bring his daughter home♡.
_ _ _ _
The airport was crowded. Voices overlapped each other. Announcements echoed again and again, blending into the constant noise of people walking, talking, waiting. Trolleys rolled across the floor. Families waited near the exit, some excited, some impatient. Everything was moving.
But in the middle of all that chaos. There was someone who stood out.
A GIRL. Not because she was trying to be seen…but because she couldn’t be ignored.
She walked forward slowly, pushing her trolley bag with one hand. In the other, she held her phone, her fingers loosely wrapped around it. White earbuds rested in her ears.
A cap covered part of her face. A mask hid the rest. But nothing could hide her presence. Her long hair fell freely down her back, reaching almost to her waist, slightly moving as she walked. Her steps were confident. But Her eyes told a different story. They moved from one place to another, searching.
As if she was looking for something… or someone. She paused for a second near the exit. Her grip on the trolley tightened slightly. She took a small breath. She just stood there. Taking it all in.
“Okay…” she whispered softly to herself. Then she looked ahead again. This time more carefully. Because somewhere in this crowd...Someone was waiting for her.And after nineteen years...She was finally here.
She was still looking around..When suddenly…Her eyes stopped. For a second, Then slowly pulled one earbud out. She saw a person holding a Card and covered his face with that and written A name... Her name..
SARAH DESHMUKH.
The moment the person lowered the card and she saw the man..everything else faded. The noise. The people. Nothing mattered. He was holding a bouquet in his hands. Looking at her. Not blinking. Almost as if he was afraid that if he did… she would disappear again.
After so many years. He took a step forward. Then stopped. As if he didn’t know if he was allowed to come closer.
As if he didn’t know if she would accept him.
Her heart skipped. “Papa…?” the word left her lips in a whisper. But she didn’t wait. Her hand slowly left the trolley. The bag stood there, forgotten. Her phone slipped slightly in her grip as her fingers loosened. And then..She ran like someone who had been waiting for this moment for years. Her eyes filled with tears as she moved closer and closer.
Vijay’s hands trembled slightly. The bouquet and card slipped from his grip and fell quietly to the ground. He didn’t even notice.Because the next second She reached him. And without stopping..She wrapped her arms around him tightly.
Not a formal hug.Not a careful one.It was sudden.Strong.Almost desperate.
Like she didn’t want to let go. Like she was afraid he would disappear .
“Papa…” her voice broke against his chest.
Vijay froze for a moment. His hands stayed in the air..Unsure...Shaking. As if he didn’t know how to hold her. As if he had forgotten what it felt like. Then slowly..He placed his hands on her back.
And pulled her closer.
His grip tightened. Not too strong. But enough to say.."You’re here."
His eyes closed.Tears finally slipped out, mixing with the years he had held everything inside. He rested his chin lightly on her head.
“Sarah…” he whispered. Her name felt new on his lips. But also familiar.
Like something he had been waiting to say for years. She held him tighter. Her fingers gripping his shirt slightly.
“I missed you…” she said softly, her voice shaking. Vijay’s hand moved gently to her head, holding her there for a moment.“I’m here now,” he replied quietly.
After nineteen years..
This was their first hug.
And neither of them was ready to let go.
Slowly, the hug loosened. Sarah stepped back slightly, her eyes still wet. Then suddenly, Sarah bent down. Before Vijay could understand, she touched his feet gently.
“Bless me,” she said softly. Vijay was taken aback.“Arrey, Sarah…” he quickly tried to stop her, his voice filled with surprise. “What are you doing?” But she had already done it.
She stood up again, giving a small, emotional smile. “It’s been years,” she said lightly. “At least let me do this properly.”
Before Vijay could say anything...Sarah’s eyes fell on the ground. The bouquet.
Lying there. She bent down and picked it up carefully. Then she looked at him.
She held the bouquet forward.
“Now give it to me properly,” she said.
Vijay blinked for a second… then let out a quiet laugh. He took the bouquet from her hands, stood straight, and then handed it back to her again...this time properly.
“For you,” he said. Sarah accepted it with a smile. “Thank you,” she replied softly.
They walked back to where her luggage was. Vijay picked up the trolley before she could.
“I’ll take it,” he said.Sarah didn’t argue.
She simply picked up her phone and walked beside him.
Without saying much, they both moved towards the exit. Towards the car.
